☞ DWELL: Brownstone Lane II Condos

The complete row of pristine brownstones on West 120th Street between FDB/8th Avenue and Manhattan Avenue is another example of contextual design within a historic neighborhood. At first glance, the recognizable brownstones' facades, lintels, entablatures and cornices seem like they have been in the neighborhood for the past 100 years, but then one realizes the entire row is brand-new and connected to one another as a condo building. The only thing is the interiors are severely modern and a little bit of classical touch could have gone a long way to integrate the inside and outside. Beyond that, these developers make the grade for taking a large lot and reinventing it in a way that complements the history of its surroundings. The block is in South Harlem and borders Morningside Heights and the New Harlem shops of FDB. Hopefully these developers will grow within Harlem and help restore some of the remaining empty lots a bit further north. Brownstone Lane II is at 310 West 120th Street and the nearest subway is either the express A,B,C,D on 125th street or the local B,C on 116th. See more on their website: www.brownstonelane2.com
