☞ SEE: Ragtime the Musical Opens on Broadway

It's a big month on and off Broadway for musicals featuring historic Harlem. Dreamgirls, playing at the Apollo has key scenes featuring the actual Apollo stage. On Broadway, the revival of Ragtime, has the Harlem piano player, Coalhouse Walker Jr. (Quentin Earl Darrington, at center of photo) plays the pivotal role in a struggle of the classes at turn of the century New York City. As we pointed out in the past, the musical based on the book by E.L. Doctorow blends the lives of fictional characters with renowned figures of that time. Then Harlem resident Harry Houdini might even make an appearance if this production is accurate to the book. Ragtime officially opened on November 15th at Broadway's Kennedy Theater.
