☞ INTRODUCING: Inn or Office on West 125th?

A reader and adept researcher got us the scoop on what's been planned for the that big lot on 5-15 West 125th Street, between Lenox and 5th Avenue. Apparently Reisman Property Interests was developing a 252 room luxury building called the Uptown Grand Hotel when the market was on a high note. Based on an old report sheet, the latest information would suggest that the current financial situation has stalled the site and a cheaper Hilton Garden Inn has been planned with more affordable rooms and a reduced number of 144 total units. All might seem like its clear and good to go but then there's a sketch of proposed office spaces from Curtis + Ginsberg Architects (second image) that has been floating around. This adds another layer of mystery to what is actually going to happen to the very large parcel of land that's been sitting empty for longer than we can remember (DOB records show whatever existed there was demolished in 2004). 1. What would be great in that lot on the first floor is a Trader Joe's!!!

  2. It looks like a mixed use project from the drawing. Three retail spaces in front and an entrance to the far left for an office or a hotel (or both). Interesting. I'd take whatever at this point (okay, except another 99-cent store).

  3. The community and its activists should rally around the developer and help them jumpstart this hotel and retail. It will bring much needed jobs to the community inboth construction and hotel/retail.

  4. Not to be a downer but methinks that it is a haunted burial ground as there have been so many hopes/projects for this lot, but nothing has happened. You also want to make sure the Park Ave Hotel (on the southeast side of Park Ave)stays in business as well!

  7. Do any of the Harlem residents want to help themselves, their families and the community? if so, they need to literally rally on that site that is to be a hotel and retail center. The banks nor the politicians could give a rats @#$, so, the people must! Failure to save it NOW would mean MANY years of a dump site where there could be a thriving center for jobs and commerce. IF YOU CARE, PLEASE SAY SO.
