☞ ARCHITECTURE: 772 St. Nicholas Avenue

The century old apartment building at 772 St. Nicholas Avenue and 148th Street probably needs a bit of a facade cleaning but it still is a dramatic sight to behold as one walks by this corner of Sugar Hill. Most of the recessed entrance corridors in the larger prewar apartments are not connected but a striking arch continues a line of curves that is also repeated above each fire escape section of this particular building. Even though the cornice is missing at the top the building, the remaining details are still substantial enough to take notice. The closest train to this location is the A,B,C,D at 145th Street. 1. This is an amazing building that unfortunately is being allowed to be destroyed internally by it's less than stellar tenants. Having family residing there, its sad to see its daily demise. Hopefully the owner will wake up in time before it's too late...
