☞ DWELL: 56 Hamilton Terrace Brownstone

OPEN HOUSE: Sunday, March 28th from 12:00-1:30 PM. Another property in the Hamilton Heights Historic District is up on the market, and the single family home (center building) at roughly 142nd Street will have its first open house this weekend. From some of the interior photos released, this 1897 Townhouse looks to have much of its original details intact and some pretty amazing herringbone wood floors. There's a total of 4 bedrooms, three baths and seven working fireplaces for the asking price of $1.685 million. There's not that many dining or shopping options in this part of town, but the A,B,C,D express train at 145 Street is about a five minute walk away and the blocks are truly some of the most breathtaking in Manhattan. 2. This part of Harlem is truly a gem. According to my grandmother who lived on this street in the 40's thru the early 50's, Mary Lou Williams lived on this side of the street and one could hear her tinkering on the piano on a quiet afternoon.

My grandparents left this quiet little street in the early 50's when my mom came here to live with them. Not many buildings were kid friendly then. Oh how I wish they hadn't done that! They lived across the street from this townhouse. I'll go to the Open House, simply to reminisce, can't buy, because when young, I drank the Kool-Aid.

  4. I looked up here several years ago and the neighbourhood and this street are just beautiful.

Seems to me that if the mechanicals are halfway sound on this house it’s a steal at 1.6. Just for the wood. There’s a single family nondescript 17 footer next to me on the market for 1.7 and while we’re in MMHD this block is nothing to rave about.

  7. This is the home of Billy Jones MD former NYC Commissioner of Health under the Dinkins administrtion. Hope that this doesn't mean that the good Doctor is leaving NYC, he's been an enormous asset to the community in particular and the city in general.

  9. Hamilton Heights - especially the Terrace is one of the best areas in all of Manhattan. The almost completed restoration of Hamilton Grange and beautiful St. Nicholas Park make this a very special and historic area.
