☞ EAT: Red Rooster in the Wall Street Journal

Readers have been sending in tips on how the retail space 2211-2223 FDB/8th Avenue and 120th Street has picked up speed with the installation of a new restaurant, and many speculate that this could be the new location for Marcus Samuelsson's Red Rooster restaurant. The Wall Street Journal blog recently caught up with Harlem's celebrity chef, but the only new information from the article was that the approximate opening date will be sometimes after Labor Day. We took the above photos recently, and new walls can been seen constructed on the 120th Street building restaurant space, but it is yet unclear if this indeed is the the new location for the next big restaurant in South Harlem. 1. What I have been told is that the bar MOCA is moving to this location. Truth be told, I hope neither MOCA or Red Rooster comes to this spot, I live accross the street and don't want anything that may attract rodents or crowds of people.

  2. Here's why I don't this will be the location for Red Rooster. The interior looks just about as finished as it should be before the actual interior design takes place. By the looks of it, all the recent activity might indicate that they're setting up for an early summer opening.

Samuelsson's place is said to open some time after Labor Day which presumably would be around the same time that the W Aloft Hotel would be prepared to house such a restaurant. All and all, it's just another loser with too much time in his hands speculation on my part.

  3. What happened to the Italian cafe that was going to be opening in the triangle building?

  4. I spotted Samuelsson twice over the weekend -- once at the cleaners on FDB and 116-117th and then walking across St. Nick's and 119th with his wife in tow. I introduced myself and he was very nice, and did admit he was starting a new restaurant in the neighborhood
