☞ WALK: What's Going on at Charlie's?

Charlie's Place, the take out fast-food sushi joint at Madison and 126th has had some plywood up on the north side of the avenue for a handful of months and it doesn't seem like much has happened since. Based on the DOB paperwork filed last October, a store addition estimated at $52,650.00 was forthcoming to this block. It is still unclear if the new commercial space actually has anything to do with the Charlie's business itself but based on the March 13th expiration date of the permit, these guys might have to pick up the pace a little (along with filing a new permit) Does anyone have any additional information on what's going on? Charlie's Place is at 1960 Madison Avenue and the nearest trains are the 4,5,6 or the 2,3 at 125th Street. All current photos by Ulysses

  1. I'm sorry to say this but Charlie's food is HORRIBLE!!
And... I took me 6 months to find a edible Chinese take out
    place in Harlem.

  2. It's one of those chinese businesses that sell Japanese food so the authenticity is not there. A great sushi restaurant is something missing in this part of town or even in South Harlem.

  3. The chinese restaurant on Lenox between 129th and 130th is pretty good.

  4. I think it is Korean owned, but not Japanese.

  5. For delicious Chinese food, I like Red Star which has quietly added several locations across different Harlem neighborhoods and is defiantly doing great business. Red Star was also was one of the first Chinese take outs to offer seating, clean tables and a creative decor. The food is always the fresh and tasty version of Chinese food popular with the American palette. Red Star is a real Harlem success story, Ulysses maybe they are worthy of a story on this blog.

  6. there is no authentic sushi in manhattan above the upper east side (where there are several, like seki and sasabune). none on the UWS. none in morningside heights. Certainly none in Harlem. There probably won't be for at least a decade, if ever. There isn't even any good sushi in the fidi, williamsburg, or dobro, so good luck with harlem.

sushi is not hot in new york these days, sadly.
