☞ REVIVE: 2078-2080 FDB Coming Along

With the new Bier International, 5 & Diamond, Zoma and 67 Orange Street on lower FDB/8th Avenue, this section of South Harlem below 116th Street is turning around pretty quickly and the new affordable housing building on the block is sealing the deal. The lot at 2078-2080 FDB always was such a killjoy walking by at night and reminded many folks of the additional progress that needed to happen to turn around the nabe. We reported a month ago that the ground breaking had commenced on the wide lot between 112th and 113th Street and the changes has been fast in coming. It is still unclear if their will be retail space on the street level but it probably would do well if was offered. Check out the original photo of this lot in our previous post: LINK. 1. We walked by there yesterday & noticed vertical steel beams right in front of 67 Orange. Are they also undergoing something? This building is going up quick! I can not say the same for the stagnant construction above Society.

  2. We also feel really bad for Society since they have had that sidewalk shed above them for what feels like an eternity. Fortunately they are still doing well and always seem to be busy.

  3. This is what I will say about Society. Expand your menu. Here is one. Get a Panini machine. You can make tons of sandwiches, that would make spending time in there much more valuable. The menu is truly a struggle. Also, get more desserts. Not sure what the problem is. Please get it together.

  4. I did a little Googling on 2078-2080 FDB. The following information comes from a City Planning Commission document dated February 2008, which describes HPD's application for the project. Note that there will in fact be ground floor commercial space:

Site 2 is located at 2078-2080 Frederick Douglass Boulevard (Block 1828, Lots 63 and 64)
between West 112th and 113th streets. The subject site, which consists of two city-owned lots, has approximately 4,850 square feet of lot area and is zoned R8A/C1-4. The proposed project site is flanked by two five story buildings. The proposed project will provide approximately 22
condominium units in a twelve-story elevator building. Four of the units will be affordable at 80% of the AMI. The project will include approximately 26,261 square feet of residential floor area, 2,893 square feet of commercial floor area and 1,000 square feet of open space. The commercial floor area will be located on the ground floor and the open space will be accessible through the second floor and roof top terraces.
