☞ SHOP: The Morningside Park Farmers' Market

Saturday, June 12th, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM at Morningside Park (rain or shine). There was a lot of talk about farmers' markets this week but the main one we currently have in Harlem is located at the southeast corner of West 110th Street and Manhattan Avenue. So check out what's new this weekend and get into the local-grown, organic, seasonal food movement.

So what's new for June? We found the fresh-press apple cider from Migliorelli Farms to be one of the best juices we have had in some time (from upstate orchards and no preservatives). All sorts of apples, strawberries, cherries and root vegetables seem to be quite abundant also. The fishery offers some of the best local caught seafood from Long Island and we have been buying from them every week. The top photo shows the amazing free-range pork seller who gives away roasted samples at his stand. If meat is your thing, this stuff is pretty sublime.

There's also a creamery, honey vendor, an Indian chutney stand, organic bakery and pickle stand. The closest train to this location is the B,C at 110th Street. Check out more details and upcoming events on the Community Markets site: LINK. All photos by Ulysses

  1. Great photos of the market. No one does veggies and greens like Migliorelli. Also love it that you captured the entire price list from Joseph Fisheries. Fish like their's at these prices is a steal.

  2. Went along to this today and was disappointed to see it a little on the quiet side (customers). I spoke to one of the vendors and he said business has certainly been a little slow and wasn't sure if it was just because of the economy. Anyways, the quality of produce is top notch. I urge everybody to come and take a look b/c already there are not that many vendors and it would be a huge shame to lose any do due lack of business. Spread the word!! (Yelp and every other avenue of web media). Hopefully they can instead attract more vendors.

  3. This farmer's market is fantastic and needs to be supported with YOUR $$$. It improves the neighborhood, brings in healthy food and gives a positive feeling in general.

BUT...this market needs a little promotion and it needs to be dependable! People need to know AND be reminded that they can reliably get their produce/fish/meats on Saturday there! (some vendors are not always there, I think...so maybe it's hard to depend on them? Or am I mistaken?

  4. Anon, you are spot on. This place has next to nothing in terms of promotions etc. Who are the owners? They ought to be running ads in AMNY to garner attention. A little money invested up front will make a huge difference.

Also, you are correct about the vendors not always being there. The flower stand guys rotate between half a dozen different locations (he said they will be in Park Slope next week I believe, whilst adding they sell a ton of merchandise out that way). Again, the problem being people just don't really know about this place.

  5. The fish vendor is excellent. They've been great with recipes, and the fish is amazingly fresh. We've been visiting regularly each week, and haven't been disappointed.

  6. My wife and I saw this market as we were passing through on our way back uptown; until now we have been shopping primarily at the stands on Broadway/116th on Sundays... just looking at the fish prices I'm thinking this might be a better option! For what it's worth I am not sure it's the economy, might just be a question of spreading the word.

We hit the markets every week for fresh eggs, fruit and greens, meat, cheese etc pretty much everything except package goods. We will definitely be trying to hit this one up Saturdays now that we know it's there.

  7. I love the farmer's market on Morningside! I go there every Saturday for my veggies and fruit, which ALWAYS taste better than those bought in a supermarket, and get a fresh sugared donut as my treat for supporting local farmers =).

  8. I imagine it's under the aegis of NYC. Mignorelli is a big presence at the Union Square market.

  10. Hi- I am the manager of the market and am so glad to see people taking such an interest in our market! The vendors at this market not only bring the highest quality produce, fish, pork, honey, nuts, coffee, pickles and bread, but they are good people to boot! I'd like to clear up a few discrepancies in the comments: the only vendor that rotates is the chutney vendor. If you come by my stand during the market you can sign up to receive an email update each week about what's happening at the market- including when our chutney vendor will be on site (her next scheduled date is July 10). We also have chef demos, produce tastings and live music certain weekends. In terms of promotion- we are constantly working on it. If you have suggestions or questions please feel free to stop by and speak to me during the market. Hope to see you all at the market- every Saturday on the corner of 110th St and Manhattan Ave, 9am-5pm.
