☞ LISTEN: Harlem Jazzmobile Summerfest

The Jazzmobile Summerfest is in its last few weeks so we swung by Grant's Tomb last night to listen to some free music. As can be seen by the photos, the neighborhood knows a good thing when they hear it. The main plaza was fill with collapsible chairs that folks brought along and the steps at the Tomb itself became stadium seating. Many generations, old and new, came out to enjoy the temperate night air and some classic music from Wycliffe Gordon. This location is quite distinct since the view includes one of the great national monuments as a backdrop along with the towering Riverside Church (lower photo). Local Japanese jazz artist Akiko Tsuruga will also be performing at this location next Wednesday. The historic Grant's Tomb is located at 122nd Street and Riverside Drive with the 1 train as the closest mode of transportation. www.JazzMobile.org
