☞ WALK: West Harlem CB9 Official Borders

Harlem is a big place and much of its boundaries are confusing to even people that have lived here for generations so we are going to take a closer look at each community boards in the next few weeks. On the west side, Community Board 9 entails Morningside Heights and the West Harlem neighborhoods of Manhattanville and Hamilton Heights, from 110th Street to 155th Street. Eastern boundaries are tricky since Morningside Park, St. Nicholas Park and Edgecombe Avenue (not including Jackie Robinson Park) divide these neighborhoods from Central Harlem. Morningside Heights technically ends at 122nds Street to the north and this is a particular distinction that many mix up for one reason or another. Manhattanville ends at 135th Street and Trinity Cemetery is part of Hamilton Heights up by 155th Street. 1. Thank You for this Ulysses. This really is important information to have. Over the years the boundary lines have been re-drawn time and time again to satisfy political situations, i.e. mid-term elections. When I was in grammar school Harlem officially ended at 159th Street.

Presently, I am a docent at the Morris-Jumel Mansion and when giving tours I am often asked about the geographical boundaries that make up the Village of Harlem. But often I worm my way out of answering that question as I simply don't know the answer.

I believe the boundaries are going to become an issue in the next few years, especially at election
