☞ WALK: Around Town this Weekend

It's perfect fall weather and folks have been really dressing up their homes and neighborhoods around Harlem.  The top photo shows the tree median decorations around the Mt. Morris Park neighborhood and the restaurant Il Caffe Latte's festive displays.  We just had a quick bite over in East Harlem and there's a Mexican Dia de los Muertos street fair that was just setting up east of Lexington on 116th (middle photos).  Brownstone owner love to decorate their stoops so its sort of a fun Holiday to check out how folks are celebrating.

  1. The traffic islands on Lenox around 120 were really quite sweet with the cobwebs and that adorable ghost. Cobwebs must have been the thing this year because there was a brownstone on 119 between Lenox and 7th that was festooned with them and was absolutely smashing. I popped into the Winery (thanks to those who reminded me about it on this blog) to pick up something for a party and they had the entire ceiling covered with cobwebs complete with a giant black spider. Really nicely done.

On the other hand I saw an adult man dressed in an orange prison jumpsuit and thought, what an unfortunate choice. And IS it a costume?

  2. What an amazing weekend of Halloween festivities. Sanou's Mum, the traffic island looked quite brilliant didn't they? We spent most of Saturday and Sunday doing things around the Mount Morris Park neighborhood and had such a great time.

Thanks to the Mount Morris Park Community Improvement Assoc. (MMPCIA) for putting on a Halloween parade around the park which was just great. Just walking around the neighborhood and seeing so many imaginative Halloween decorations was a great way to spend an afternoon. Rounded things off on Sunday handing out candy to trick or treaters. So many happy faces.

If anybody has any doubts as to whether this is family/people friendly area, they ought to spend a day or two around Halloween up here.

  3. Totally agree, Chris. And next year I am going to make sure my house is on the official MMPCIA "friendly trick or treating house" list.
