☞ DWELL 70 West 119th Street in Contract

Interest in West 119th Street, just east of Lenox Avenue, seems to be picking up since another SRO building  (which reportedly had squatters) is currently in contract as of November.  Number 70 West 119th Street might be in the Mount Morris Park Historic District but the brownstone itself has been neglected in a way that disregards its prominent designation.  The asking price was at $769K for the 17 foot wide building but it's unclear if there ever was a certificate of non-harassment in place.  Another SRO at number 74, which is just a couple of buildings west, just recently went into contract and a fully renovated 2-family brownstone at 57 West 119th Street just sold for $1.75 million in September: LINK

  1. 70 is the one with the boarded up windows. The building with the open window on the top is one of a twin of abandoned-but-not-legally-abandoned buildings on that side of the street.

  3. I live on this block and must confess that the architecture of the houses here is a cut below the rest of the neighbourhood. It would be nice if it were fixed up a bit; without straining I can mentally count at least five buildings on the downtown side of the street that are abandoned or as good as. Plus we have a significant amount of, um, free trade on the block by local entrepreneurs. And lively games of chance take place on the street.

But it has its own funky charm. And a lovely church smack dab in the middle.
