☞ EAT: What's Up with Mojo?

Mojo over at 185 St. Nicholas Avenue and West 119th Street seems to have been doing some great business these past couple of years but a reader pointed out some signs of concern recently. While arriving for dinner a weekend ago, one guest saw a sign up that stated the restaurant will "no longer be serving food (just cocktails) and that their hours of operation would be scaled back."  The offerings have been consistent at this hot spot since they first opened and the service really came together in the past year so we are a little surprised by the changes.  What's going on here? www.mojo-harlem.com

  1. We planned on going there for brunch the Sunday of the NYC marathon. Called them the night before to confirm they were doing brunch and to reserve if necessary. They said no problem, come by, no reservation required. We got there the next day at 12:30 and the place was closed! That does not seem like great service. Needless to say, haven't tried to go back since.

  2. According to the sign on the door, they are serving cocktails only Thursday-Saturday, during the holiday season. Once New Year's passes it will be business as usual. There's probably more money in being a "club" on the weekends the a club/restaurant!

  4. The guest above has it right. The original informant didn't read the whole sign. It said that they wouldn't be serving dinner on the weekends in order to accommodate more patrons during the busy holidays. Keep in mind, space is tight in there and when they first opened they were a cocktail lounge and later introduced the food.

  5. The main chef quit Mojo's and the have been trying to find a replacement. They will be back in operations for food once a new chef has come on board.

  6. Ikes, it's now February, and i just called the phone # on their website (to check on the dinner schedule discussed above) and received an automated operator message that the phone # has been "temporarily" disconnected. Anyone have any updates?
