☞ INTRODUCING: Second Harlem IHOP on 126th

The signs are up at the new construction at the corner of Lexington and 126th Street for Harlem's next International House of Pancakes. A reader was walking by 2082 Lexington Avenue today and took the above photos announcing IHOP's arrival in East Harlem.  Central Harlem already has one up on 135th Street at the former Small's Paradise building while this new location is in a commercial development called the East Harlem Gateway II which finished up in the past year or so: LINK.  These big, affordable chains are popular and IHOP will probably do well in this location.  The immediate block is pretty desolate at times so adding the foot traffic will definitely be an improvement.

  1. IHOP is a little down-market, but I'm glad the building is not empty.

The location is pretty dismal; perhaps this will help clean it up.

  3. That's actually not a bad tenant for that location, as 125th between 3rd and Lex is already full of chain stores. If you're going "down-market", you could do a lot worse than IHOP.

  4. The other Harlem ihop does very well and I expect this to do well also, it is a good addition to the neighborhood and will cheer up this desolate corner.

It can only help. At least its something that the folks in immediate area can afford/enjoy. They should do really well.

Actually considering that A) the bus to go to the homeless shelters on Ward's Island is on that block and B) there are 2 rehab places within a short walk from that corner-I am kind of surprised that it is not a lot WORSE over there.

That's a whole lot of general desperation concentrated into one area.

Vic Vega -- so *that's* why there are so many homeless on that street corner. I assumed there was some institutional reason, but never knew that was it.

Well, I hope they like pancakes.

  7. Also some serious drug locations on Lex just south of 124.
