☞ SHOP: Progress at Old Vinegar Hill Space

The trio of better shops in West Harlem on Broadway between 137th and 138th Street have been closed for a couple of years now and it looks the next incarnation of the commercial corridor is coming along. Vinegar Hill Bread Market, Tres Pasos and Cafe Largo where the big three eateries that appeared to be popular newcomers to the nabe but it became evident that the temporarily closed status soon became a permanent one. A tarp announcing the arrival of David's Gourmet Deli appeared several months ago but nothing was happening to the site until now. Workers have recently showed up and now all three spaces are totally being gutted this week.  Based on what we can decipher from the permits, it would appear that the three shops will now become one large storefront.

  4. Well, maybe not tragic, but a shame considering what was there before. To be fair, a DR is better than a) nothing b) hair salon/gourmet deli.

  5. @hd: yes, that's what I've heard as well (unfortunately!!)

Things we don't need in this neighborhood: more drug stores, cell phone stores, and bodegas

Things we DO need: more bars/restaurants like Cafe Largo, and even 1-2 more banks wouldn't be a terrible thing.
