☞ DRINK: What's up with 67 Orange Street?

UPDATE: The official news is that 67 Orange Street will be open tonight, 10/14 and going forward! Society Coffee officially shut down on Monday but now reports are coming in that the sister speakeasy bar called 67 Orange Street has been shuttered by officials as of last night.  A few tips came in that the lounge on FDB at 113th Street had been dramatically closed last night and now is officially no longer operating for the time being.  Signs are apparently up on the windows this morning announcing that the property has been seized as is no longer open. It's been a rough month for the owner of the two South Harlem businesses so let's hope they get through this one.

  1. We need to understand that we have more businesses to support than Harlem Tavern and Red Rooster. With a population of 575,000 and visitors of 50 million to NYC, this should NOT be happening. Obviously, there is more to Greater Harlem than the latest hotspot. Please patronize your local establishments. Everyone brings something unique to the mosaic

  2. To be fair, Society Coffee always seemed to be packed. Not sure if lack of patronage was an issue in that case. Of course, 67 Orange might be a different story and maybe they were hurt by the opening of Bier International and Harlem Tavern.

You are right though, this should not be happening and it is a real shame.

  4. This wasn't about having enough customers. This was about breaking the law by a certain owner, and no one should look at this as being about the success or failure of Harlem to support a business. There's a LOT more to this story....

  5. Henry...

You sound like a hater " a certain owner??" LOL! I walked by today and 67 is open. Maybe there was an accounting mix-up. Nevertheless, support the small business owners in Harlem. Can't wait to have an "Emancipation" tonight!

  6. Please do everything you can to support 67 Orange. We love the owner and the staff. 67 Orange brings a much-needed cool vibe to the neighborhood and although I love kids, it is nice to have a place where there is no stroller parking outside. I am going to have an Emancipation tonight as well.

  8. So maybe it was a minor mishap of some kind. Same thing happened to the Dunkin Donuts on 125th. Couple of orange seized stickers up one day and back to business the next. Either way, best of luck for the future.

  9. Constance could not agree more! I have kids but love that this place doesn't have that vibe - i take my downtown friends here and they love it. Great drinks, style, and service
