☞ REMEMBER: Corner of 153rd and St. Nicholas

An undated photo shows the corner houses that used to be located up at 153rd Street and St. Nicholas Avenue probably a century ago. West Harlem had a few estates left over by the turn of the century and there appears to be two separate landowners who did not sell their properties to developers at this point in time.  This section of Sugar Hill now has prewar apartment building lining the entire block which were probably built by the 1920s.

  1. Could that tall building in the background with the water tower on the roof be 409 Edgecombe? That would date this photo sometime after 1914.

  2. Yeah it looks like 409 Edgecombe (my apartment is there ),we can't tell because it is missing the third section of the building in the photo. But I think you are right about the date.

I have seen and copied many photos of 409 from the Museum site but never saw this one. There is a huge house that looks like this one on the corner in front of the Barnum Mansion. I am not sure if it is the same one ?
