☞ READ: Harlem Shambles in the Times

The boys over at the new artisanal butchers on Frederick Douglass Boulevard have now been featured in the New York Times.  Brothers Timothy and Mark Forrester have created quite a stir by opening a specialty shop that offers up more unusual cuts such as beef marrow, ham hocks, flap steak which also are displayed alongside freshly made head cheese.  Everything is prepared on site and the offerings are also grass-fed, hormone and antibiotic free.  Our style call out has always been that these gentlemen are probably the best dressed butchers in town which the Times fails to recognize.  Read more about the Harlem Shambles in the New York Times: LINK

  1. I cannot recommend Harlem Shambles enough, their meats are simply brilliant and more importantly the service is stellar!!

  2. We go to Harlem Shambles about once a week, and are thoroughly impressed each time. Timothy and Rico are so incredibly helpful and the meat is delicious.

  3. Been there half a dozen times now and I can't think of a better butcher in the city. These guys know their stuff inside out and a few weeks back had some chili that was delicious. Haven't seen it since, but I asked them last night and they said they are perfecting the recipe. Well worth a visit.

  4. Sorry to say it but I was hugely disapointed. The meat is wildly expensive and I found the selection limited and teh cleanliness not up to par. There were cleaning products sitting out on the counter where they prep the meat. This is a major health violation I'm afraid. I was thrilled they opened but they need to step up the game and lower some of the prices if they want to make it work long term.

  5. That's a shame llchivee. Maybe an opening glitch. I thought the prices were alright, $9 a lb for ranch steak. I haven't seen it cheaper anywhere else.

  6. I stopped in while I was in town visiting my sister. Everything looked so good and they had cuts I don't usually see in my market. Among other things, I bought some beef neck bones that I turned into a delicious stew with vegetables and ssamjang!

  7. Have been in a couple times - the service was great, and the meat is incredible and a great value given the quality! Prices seem reasonable given this level of quality - definitely a step up above the local supermarket and even better than Whole Foods. Welcome to the neighborhood, and hope you will open another store closer to 145 and St. Nic!

  8. Glad to read they have loyal customers and likely some new clientele after this story, also good to read an artisan business is succeeding in today’s world of Costco and Walmart.

  9. The best new business to come to Harlem this year! I hope they can get a bit more street visibility - maybe a nice sign or an awning.
