Artist Raymond Sicignano painted many of Harlem's vanishing storefronts several years ago and sent in an image of one of the other Sherman's branches that was still in existence at the time. The familiar blue and red storefront is the same as the last remaining shop on 145th Street but this facade also has a very distinct signage in the shape of chicken. To be honest, up until recently I had no idea this was such an iconic place. More should have been done to get it into the spotlight with tourists etc. Ben's Chili in Washington, DC has this nailed and is constantly packed with tourists b/c of the heritage and ties with celebrities.
ReplyDeleteI'm adverse to waiting on line to eat, but any establishment that proudly claims that they have "pig's feet" would most definitely warrant an exception to my waiting on line rule.
