☞ INTRODUCING: Astor Row Cafe to Open

The new businesses popping up on upper Lenox have been embracing a little bit of history and now it appears that a coffee shop opening on 130th will follow the same example.  A Bespoke reader has been following the renovations on the corner building at Lenox which faces the landmark Astor Row block and has confirmed that the new establishment will be called Astor Row Cafe.  Strips of aged wood have been added to the facade and interior so expect a rustic vintage look with contemporary accents for the interior.  Progress is happening quickly on this one and the word on the street is that Astor Row Cafe might just be open in a week's time.

  1. Apparently a Yelp page has already been set up.

  2. that's funny--it was supposed to be the new site of the Lenox wine shop, the now-closed joint on the SW corner of 129th and Lenox. Had several conversations with owner and manager about the upcoming move, etc.

  3. The majority of the interior has been finished at this point and one can see a bar in the back and the main seating layout. This is most definitely a cafe.

  4. Huh. Well, I hope he doesn't have anything to do with it--not much of a business man and seems to have trouble hanging onto his liquor license.

  5. I am looking forward to seeing this place, and I hope it does not spell the death of Lenox Coffee, which is only a block away but in a worse location.

  6. Great news for upper Lenox, this has a corner location that is good for visibility. Cafes have proven themselves in other neighborhoods and Harlem could use some more.

  8. They had the doors open Sunday morning when I jogged past and it looks really cool inside. Not knowing what will be on the menu, I can't imagine that it will hurt Lenox Coffee's business. On the weekends, LC is so crowded it's hard to get a table. Upper Lenox is so starved of good cafes and restaurants and there are more than enough potential customers in the neighborhood.

I'm glad someone else brought up Lenox Wines. What is going on with them? I keep trying to get some information but can't find anything out. I really hope they reopen soon. I don't want to trek over to FDB or to the UWS just for a decent bottle of wine.

  9. Lenox Coffee is even crowed on lunchtime weekdays.

I think the two place can overlap nicely.

  11. Lets just hope it offers quality coffee. I stopped in and it looks ok - but the whole point is to get some good coffee. Lenox Coffee offers amazing coffee you can find downtown plus they have great baristas!

For another coffeeshop to open a block down is a bit ridiculous for growth and demand in Harlem.

  12. I stopped in and met the owners yesterday. Great space--high ceilings, bright, lots of recycled wood and other interesting details. The owner mentioned using a local roaster for the coffee beans (not sure who), is planning on offering organic salads and lots of vegetarian items. Sounds like a great addition to the neighorhood. They are trying to open this coming week.
