☞ REMEMBER: Broadway and 122nd circa 1890

A photo from circa 1890 shows the new Grant's Tomb monument at the edge of West Harlem's border to Morningside Heights and undeveloped open land. The next ten years would bring along major construction that would include luxury elevator buildings along Riverside Drive in the distance and many tenement style buildings along Broadway.  The elevated 1 train will also make its appearance above ground at this intersection and would by one of the main reasons for the areas dramatic real estate boom.
