☞ REVIVE: 53 West 126th Street Facade Finishes

The new construction built on a brownstone lot at West 126th Street between Fifth Avenue and Lenox topped off a coupe of months back and now the facade has finished up.  A Bespoke reader sent in a current photo of number 53 West 126th Street and the image reveals a modern, grey exterior with miniature balconies on the top two levels.  These 4-story new buildings are on the small side so having balconies often look a bit cumbersome but anything new definitely looks better than an abandoned lot.  We are assuming that these will be condos at some point so stay tuned for further details.

  2. I like it. The colour is a little different from what everyone else is doing and the subtle details of the brick work are spot on. I just wish the balconies continued all the way across and maybe had a little bit more detail.I think a few art deco details would have fit nicely with the rest of the building and also the neighborhood. I would really enjoy sitting out there and watching the neighborhood pass buy.

  3. The brickwork is better than the norm, anyway. If only they hadn't gone with the balconies...

  4. Not my cup of tea, looks like the building was delivered and assembled flat packed from an Ikea store, especially when compared to the craftsmanship of its neighbors. It only acknowledges the adjacent buildings by following the same window lines and facade line.

  6. That is the ugliest building I had to see in Harlem... What kind of architect does this " thing " ?
Thanks God it is not in my neighborhood... :))

  7. Either the balcony should go across, or a lintel should have been put in above the windows to carry the line. It could even have been a modern lintel. And clearly they knew they needed something there, or they would not have interrupted the running brickwork above the windows. Another small percentage of dollars would have doubled its attractiveness, even keeping the aesthetic they were going for.
    IMHO.
    Thanks for documenting.
