☞ READ: Second Applebee's Planned for Harlem

The Applebee's on 125th Street proved popular with locals when it arrived a few years back and now the chain restaurant will have a second location in East Harlem according to New York magazine.  An empty lot located at 509-513 East 117th Street will have a new building constructed on it and will sit directly adjacent to the Target at the East River Plaza.  Read more on this Applebee's in NY magazine: LINK

  1. Yes, another Applebee's is exactly what Harlem needs. So much for originality.

  2. This is why I live in NYC--for multiple Applebee's locations in my neighborhood!

  3. Judging from the popularity of the franchise on 125th Harlem does need another. Not my cup of tea but they must be doing something right and being over by Target should be a great spot for them.

As for originality, Laurence Page has walked that cat way back. Check out the awning and signage of the Pink Tea Cup next time you 're near 14th and 6th.

  4. I expect Applebee’s will do very well, especially at the East River Plaza as it fits the whole mall experience, plus the East River Plaza is frequented by shall we say, larger individuals who I am sure will enjoy Applebee’s menu.

  5. Yes,Applebee's has the recipe for Wall E World. I've noticed many different varieties and styles of the the motorized chair the few times I've been to to the East River Plaza.

  6. Before you get too snobby about Applebee's you might want to remember that there are many office workers and school staff and teachers and shop clerks who work on or near 125 and there are not a helluva lot of eating options for them, no matter what their girth.

  7. There should be many more eating options for those teachers, clerks and office workers that are moderately priced. Call me a snob, I just don't consider Applebee's an eating option. But that's just me.

  8. Applebees and similar high calorie low nutrition restaurants choose to open in areas where customers prefer unhealthy food. Case in point, across the street from Applebees is Island Salad which does not seem to be taking all of Applebees customers. Also Wild Olive offers great salads and sandwiches at very good value. People do have choices and some choose unhealthy.

  9. Westsider,
You think the marketing geniuses at Applebee's don't know that? They are feeding the poison the the very willing. And profiting handsomely from it.

  10. For some odd reason, I don't think Applebees customers are the type of people who read this blog.

  11. Geez.

There are at least 2 major Mexican places in the area, including Agua Fresca, the Tapas place nezt door to them and the new BBQ place. That isn't counting all the small local Mexican eateries.

    Applebee is just another option.

Folks are making mountains outta molehills here.

  12. My husband and I dine at most of Harlem's eateries from Applebee's level up. Sometimes the convenience makes Applebee's a practical option. They offer a variety of lower-calorie options including a number of tasty salads. Even the ridiculously high-calorie options have a calorie count displayed right next to the item. I get the feeling some of the critical voices on this blog have never even looked at an Applebee's menu.
