☞ DWELL: Washington Theatre Still on Market

The Washington Theatre designed by Thomas W. Lamb might not get the same attention as the Victoria Theatre on 125th Street but the potential for developing something great still lies within.  Originally listed at $11.5 million back in May 2012, the West Harlem building at the corner of 149th Street eventually came down to an $8.75 million asking price.  This historic theater was used in the past decades as the home to the New Covenant Temple but the building at 1805 Amsterdam Avenue has been empty for the couple of year or so.

Brokers have been trying to sell the 97 foot wide, 36,432 square foot corner building as a commercial, or mixed use residential adaptive reuse project but it appears that one with a creative mind has not come along at this point in time.  More details on this property can be found on Streeteasy: LINK.  What should become of this Hamilton Heights theater?   Check out our past post on the Washington Theatre for more on its history: LINK
