☞ DWELL: 458 West 150th Street Townhouse

A house covered in some interesting green vinyl faux stonework at 458 West 150th Street just arrived on the market for the asking price of $950K.  The 16-foot-wide, two-family home has a pretty straightforward renovation on the inside and but the outside will probably be the biggest detractor for the building locating just west of Convent Avenue in West Harlem.  Only one of the buildings within this row of three English cottage townhouses is up for sale so it is unclear if just this one unit can have its facade restored to its original look. With that said, the price is on the lower side of things so maybe an investor with the right vision can come along and fix things up to the original 1899 aesthetic.  This entire area is quiet and pretty much residential but a plus is that the express trains are on 4 blocks away on 146th Street. 1. So bizarre I'd be tempted to leave it just like that. Wonder what it looked like originally.

  4. From the archival photos, it appears that the original material used on the facade was cedar house siding. Outside of replace this element on the exterior, the window and doors would have to be replaced to be historically accurate. The frame mouldings are also missing on all of the portals.

  5. What's amazing if the front yard from the street. This house was built a little from the street someone could install a beautiful lawn or garden for passerbys to enjoy.
