☞ INTRODUCING: First Look at Mother Hale Depot

A Bespoke Twitter follower sent us the top photo of the new building rising on 145th Street at Lenox Avenue and asked if this was some sort of mall rising in Central Harlem.  This new building is actually the new 400,000-square-foot Mother Clara Hale Bus Depot that will apparently have a green roof on top of the building.  The structure appears to be making some major progress and folks should expect everything to wrap sometimes in 2013.  Check out the architectural sketches in our past post: LINK

  2. Seriously, Sanou's Mum. it's such a weird assocaition.

All I can say is that I hope this construction wraps sooner rather than later. It's made a total mess of the intersection of 145th & Lenox. Well, that and all of the road work that's been going on on Lenox between 141st and 146th for the past year. I'll be happy when we have properly paved roads again.

Any word on what they'll be planting on this green roof? I think an urban farm would be a welcome addition to the neighborhood. There are no farmers markets in the nearby area and this a section of Harlem that is hurting for fresh, local, organic produce. Do you know who one would get in touch with if one wanted to get involved with the green roof project? The MTA or the community board?

  3. would you really eat food planted on top of a bus depot?? really?? why the heck is a bus depot being built on Lenox Ave anyway.. That type of stuff should be moved to the Bronx -not anywhere in Manhattan
