☞ REMEMBER: The Harlem Express circa 1900

Another old photo of the Harlem Express circa 1900 shows the uniforms worn in the day by the conductors.  It appears the guy in charge is probably wearing the bowler and the traditional engineer's cap can be seen on the gentleman second in command.  The elevated train predates the subway systems  and were mostly dismantled when the underground system of public transportation became the standard for the city.

  1. one would be the fireman or stoker for the coal firebox.the other could be the engineer and not the conductor

  2. Great photo, this small steam engine looks like a real work horse, I wonder how many of these locomotives where in operation.
