☞ EAT: Bungalow Burgers Opens on Upper FDB

Upper FDB is still pretty rough around the edges but a new eatery called Bungalow Burgers has opened in the former BBQ space at the corner of 127th Street which might just turn things around. This new burger shack is apparently from the same owner as Cantina on the Lower ACP corridor (which we do like) but the new space is a bit more commercial from what we can see.  Everything is very moderately priced and specials like sliders are part of the offering.  Has anyone been yet?

  1. We've been twice already. Both times we called ahead to pick up. The toppings choices are good. Goat cheese and avocado are winners. The cheese fries are covered in real cheese not slathered in Velveeta cheese-like goop. And the slaw is very nice. On our first order we included a red velvet shake. That was not so impressive. The second time we went for the cookies and cream shake...a much better choice. The owner is very pleasant. He wants feedback. We'll definitely make it back there. It might draw comparisons to Harlem Shake. While that restaurant has a much better atmosphere, the prices are better at Bungalow. We'll still go to both places. Each has its pros and cons.

  2. Its about time this side of Harlem got a great place to eat.. been there too many times to count since it opened. Constantly good and great service. Very clean and friendly.. Does not deliver but its good that you can call in your order to pick it up..

  4. It's great to see great restaurants popping up in the neighborhood. So far we have enjoyed the oxtail sliders, milk shakes and burgers. Unfortunately both times we were disappointed by the service. The servers are not very attentive and the kitchen is quite slow.

  5. I live right near this place so I was very excited to see it appear. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed by the menu and food.

What place that only sells burgers has no pre-made, special options? Everything is build your own burger? I don't see that taking off considering most people often don't want to be forced to choose options for toppings, sauces, etc.

Regardless, the food was mediocre. You would think a place that only sells burgers would go over the top to make them either filling or mouthwatering or both. My burger was neither, and when requesting mushrooms and fried onions, I received 3 mushrooms and a small raw onion. The fries were good quality but undercooked.

I really wanted to like this place but I don't see it lasting. Be aware that tip is included in your check, so don't over tip like I did.
