☞ EAT: Yasha Ramen Opens South of Harlem

Harlem on the West Side ends around 110th Street but we are willing to venture a few blocks down to check out some other ramen options.  Yasha Ramen at 940 Amsterdam at 106th Street looks to be Japanese owned which is something different for the uptown market but the staff is not Japanese like the many shops to be found downtown.  With that said, we noticed that there were a lot of Japanese customers dining at the casual spot in the Manhattan Valley neighborhood so our expectations were quite high.

A chicken stock ramen starts out at $9 which is pretty moderate price but we went for the classic tonkotsu offering for $12 a bowl.   Noodle wise,  the ramen is on the thin side which is not our preference but was cooked appropriately and accompanied with the requisite egg, pork and scallion condiments.  The stock had some real serious pork flavor to it that was more authentic than others we have tried but was somehow too thick and the pork was decent enough but not as tender as Jin Ramen further up on Broadway.   We will probably go back for the less expensive chicken stock option which is Yasha Ramen's signature dish to see how it stands up against the pork option.   More on Yelp: LINK

  1. it's eh. i went thanksgiving weekend and jin ramen is better. the 2 types of chicken wings/fried chicken are good, but ramen is not worth going back for.

please let us know of any more ramen places in harlem. thanks.

  2. Looks good. Wish it was located in Harlem, not Morningside Heights.

  3. We do not usually focus on Morningside Heights but have pointed out in our past post that he area is technically part of CB9 West Harlem. With that said, Yasha is technically in Manhattan Valley and easy enough to get to from south Harlem.

  5. Jin Ramen on Broadway just below 125th street is also the other notable ramen shop uptown.
