☞ SHOP: Native Transforms to La Bodega 47

DNAinfo has the inside story on Native's transformation to La Bodega 47 in the Mount Morris Park Historic District on Lenox by 118th Street.  The owner wanted an upscale lounge with a trendy speakeasy theme to catch up with the times.  Apparently the facade of the store will look like an actual bodega out front when all is finished but the inside will be a fancy meeting spot for drinks.  Based on rather large light bulb hanging at the front entrance and the actual bodega store products shown in the article, there seems to be a little bit of kitsch factor involved but the offerings appear to be reasonably priced with everything under $12 for food or cocktails.  More in DNAinfo: LINK

  1. Love a classic NY bodega, don't get me wrong. But do I really want to go to a bar with cans of tomato paste serving as light shades? If I wanted to that, I could buy a bottle of rum and mix my own drinks in the local bodega. Best of luck to the owner though - this all depends on execution!

  2. Sounds great. The arrival of trendy destination spots and cocktail lounges like this will help continue the revival of the neighborhood. And the Caribbean-Latin theme hues closely to Harlem's character. Nice to see so many people continuing to invest in the neighborhood. Harlem's future is bright.

  5. I hope they serve bar snacks late night too. I love 67 Orange, but it gets too crowded sometimes and Minton's closes too early. Would be nice to have an alternate spot.
