NEW HARLEM EATERY NUMBER 3: HARLEM PUBLIC

Between the still lingering ill-perception of excessive crime and somewhat over-priced commercial retail demands, Harlem's dining scene has had its ups and downs over the years. With that in mind, we thought it would be appropriate to go over the newish establishment that were pioneers not so long ago and who have since helped change the dining scene in Harlem.

HARLEM PUBLIC, 3612 BROADWAY BETWEEN 148TH AND 149TH
One pub above 145th Street made our list of dining establishments that changed the food scene uptown.   Harlem Public is less than 2 years old but has had lot of coverage in the local news because it was the first establishment this far north that embraced the whole rustic, craft beer ambiance.  The Public eschewed the lounge look that does not seem to want to go away uptown for the more traditional take of an Irish Pub.  With that said, the menu takes on some hip modern twists and features a peanut butter, cheese and bacon burger that has been the talk of the Heights.

The rest of the menu is actually better than most places we have been to but the bar tends to be crowded at times (especially during the evening when the venue often turns into a sports bar).  Fortunately for everyone close to the Broadway corridor, Harlem Public will reportedly be expanding to the empty next door space in the near future with a new restaurant that will feature more of a dinner friendly environment.

  1. On another related note, the popular brunch service has now returned on Sundays!
