NEW HARLEM EATERY NUMBER 4: JADO SUSHI

Between the still lingering ill-perception of excessive crime and somewhat over-priced commercial retail demands, Harlem's dining scene has had its ups and downs over the years. With that in mind, we thought it would be appropriate to go over the newish establishment that were pioneers not so long ago and who have since helped change the dining scene in Harlem.

JADO SUSHI, 2118 FREDERICK DOUGLASS BOULEVARD AT 114TH STREET
Most of the better sushi spots downtown or in Brooklyn are run by Japanese expats but somehow spots above 96th Street were typically Chinese restaurants trying to jump on the raw fish trend.  That all changed when Jado Sushi opened up on 8th Avenue back in 2012. Nigiri, sashimi and maki rolls are all made to order by expert sushi chefs at the bar in the back but unusual items such as the braised short ribs on the menu provide other options for guests that are less surf friendly.  A popular ramen shop would appear in West Harlem the following year and now a kissaten establishment has also arrived in Harlem.
