REMEMBER: THE 130TH STREET FERRY STATION


A photo from 1915 shows the 130th Street Ferry Station by the Hudson River.  Today this intersection is roughly at 125th Street and the old ferry building disappeared decades ago.  The West Harlem Piers have been added to this part of Manhattanville a few years ago and is now a public park for all to enjoy.  We have seen kayakers come in from New Jersey to go to Fairway in the past but not much else has been ferried over to this part of Harlem for quite some times.

    Is it true that Columbia will be starting a ferry service from NJ to Harlem

      Councilman Levine has been meeting with Columbia University and others to determine whether a Harlem to NJ and/or a Wall Street - Harlem Ferry might be possible

    I remember catching the ferry across to the Palisades Amusement Park in Fort Lee and boarding the Dayliner boat up river to Indian Point and Bear Mountain picnic areas.

    I recall a vestige of the ferry gate was still in place around 1960, finally removed. Never saw it in operation as a child in the area, but heard stories, creating great imaginings as I use to look out from Riverside over to where Palisade Amusement Park was visible. What an area with great history!

      I also remember looking across the Hudson and seeing Palisades Amusement Park. Memories!
