REMEMBER: BESPOKE HARLEM CIRCA 1930

Films actually documenting everyday life in Harlem during the Harlem Renaissance years are hard to find and thus we are excited that this silent gem has just been released.  Apparently 7th Avenue above 125th Street was the center of Harlem where folks were dressed up to be seen and the short clips of street fashion shows a very polished society of strivers.  There is also a rare glimpse of an actual Cotton Club performance and the crowds that attended the politically incorrect, plantation-themed shows.  Today upper 7th Avenue has a long way to go to regain its former glory but the recent resurgence in Harlem's population might just herald another renaissance in the upcoming years.
