DWELL: ORIGINAL DETAILS AT 437 WEST 147TH STREET

We do not have any specific details for the sale of 437 West 147th Street but a Bespoke reader mentioned there is a dumpster out front of the Hamilton Heights home formerly going for $1.3 million about 4 years ago.  Apparently somebody did not get the memo that original details are valuable since this is what the tipster observed yesterday:

Today there is a dumpster out front and guys are ripping out woodwork like crazy. I believe I see a mantel in the dumpster plus portions of a wall. I think we are talking gut renovation here. Lots of historic detail hitting the trash.

In our opinion, even if a new owner is not using the woodwork inside, an antique dealer could be contacted locally so that at least another home could have their interiors restored accordingly.  Does anyone know whats going on here?

  1. I doubt if things will stay in the dumpster for very long

  2. We actually looked at buying this place and had an accepted offer at one point but pulled out when we realized how much work was involved. It is basically a gut reno with extensive work including roof etc...still, we would have kept a lot of original details, its a shame they are ripping everything out.
