REMEMBER: OLD BROADWAY CIRCA 1932

A photo from 1932 shows the extension of Old Broadway in Manhattanville around 1932 which was just above what is now today West 126th Street. Old Broadway ran north of 125th Street and just east of Broadway back in those days but some major changes would come about within three decades. As one can see, there were still quite a few wood frame houses in the neighborhood mixed in with tenement style residential buildings when this part of the old street was still intact and children can be seen posing on the street corner.  By the mid century, all of these  buildings would be demolished to make way for massive tower in the park public housing that still stands today.  Curiously enough, an intact portion of Old Broadway still exists right above 125th Street but only for one small block.
