REMEMBER: A LANGSTON HUGHES MURAL

We had seen the mural work being done a couple of weeks ago at one of the old tenement buildings in Hamilton Height and only had a chance to view the finished product while walking around last night.  These walls mostly consist of images but one quote stood strong at center from Harlem Renaissance poet Langston Hughes.  "I was in love with Harlem long before I got there," still means a lot today since the spirit of Harlem and uptown's history of diversity continues to draw people from all over.  We or our ancestors all come from someplace else and the modern day Harlem was founded on a remarkable generation of strivers arriving a century ago.  Many were born here since then and even more have left but this inspiration still holds true for those new and old who are committed to the legacy of uptown's legendary village.
