BESPOKE: WORKING WITH LOCAL DESIGNERS

A unique thing that is happening with the creative culture in Harlem is that one can work directly with a designer or artisan since the scene is more neighborly than mass market.  We have curated Sugar Hill Market as a sort of meeting point where both creators and shoppers find a more personal experience than going the usual retail route.

At a recent market, one return customer to the sportswear line Beriqisu found a dress that she loved within the new fall collection but needed some adjustments to be made in the fit for an important dinner party that was coming up fairly soon.  When we had coffee with the Harlem-based designer a week later, she mentioned that she hand delivered the newly tailored piece to the client at a local spot just in time for the aforementioned event.

Another great example is Karema Deodato Millinery which often sells out of certain style at the market.  Interested custom clients have often set up an appointment later in the week at the Harlem designer's studio to have their head measured for proper size and to also review additional styles.  We personally just received  a follow-up message on one design that we have not found anywhere else for fall.

There will be another Sugar Hill Market this weekend on Sunday, October 26th at 259 West 132nd Street from Noon to 7:00PM for those interested in supporting the local movement.  Get even more daily updates via following the official SHM Instagram account:  LINK
