READ: A REDESIGN WITHOUT PRESERVATION

DNAinfo posted on March 20th that developers of the historic Renny presented the above revised rendering of The Renny on 7th Avenue and 138th Street.  Basically similar bricks are being used on part of the new facade but that actual building is being demolished and nothing preserved.  Newly approved permits for demolition went up 3 days ago and machinery has torn down the roof and top detail of the building as of yesterday.  Although somewhat creative in a very roundabout way, we do not really see how the revised design is really a preservation effort or even would be considered good aesthetics by any modern architectural firm's standards.  Any final thoughts out there?

  1. I did not know there was a "Save the Renny" until 5 mins ago. Very disturbed by this fact. I walked by there and saw the pile, thought to myself wasn't there a beautiful ornate old building here last week? A very tragic loss for Harlem. The developers plan is quite simply, UGLY!
