EAT: MOUNTAIN BIRD POPPING UP IN EAST HARLEM

Friday, April 24th, Mountain Bird Pop-Up at 251 East 110th Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenue.  Harlem's critically acclaimed restaurant Mount Bird shuttered abruptly because of increased rent at the former 145th Street address but the husband and wife team will now have a pop up location Tuesday through Saturdays from 6:00PM-10:00PM starting in a couple of weeks.  We have been told that the menu will be the same but guests should also expect a few new items to choose from.  A permanent location is taking some time to sort out but this will help fill the void we have all been feeling since the eatery closed last summer in Central Harlem.  More on Mountain Bird in our past post: LINK

  1. Oh this is one of those good news/good news things, though I thought it was good news/bad news.

Good news - they're opening for a bit
Good news - it may not be permanently on the east side.

I think they would do really well to find a place in Hamilton Heights/Sugar Hill.

  2. I disagree with the first poster. Obviously they have some sensitivity to rent costs, which are rising rapidly uptown. And they run a fairly small dining room, so rapid table turns can only go so far. A permanent East Harlem location could be ideal given lower rents versus other areas uptown. And frankly, eastsiders like myself would fully embrace this place, as neighborhood currently lacks a destination restaurant.

  4. It could be argued that before Mountain Bird, there were no destination restaurants in Hamilton Heights either. Frankly, there still aren't any...
