An Academy Award-nominated drama, Tanna explores the distance travelled and trials endured for the sake of love and independence in South Pacific Tanna, Vanuatu. Performed entirely by the Yakel people, two lovers leave their homes in order to live the life they desire against their families and heritage. Inspired by true events, filmmakers Martin Butler and Bentley Dean collaborated with the Yakel people to take audiences on a historically colorful adventure told through an array of vibrant naturalistic images. Featured in the African Film Festival’s 2016 program, Tanna brings us closer to a world presumably far from our own but creates a bond surrounded by tragedy and love.
