REMEMBER: THE FISH MARKET CIRCA 1929

Harlem Bespoke:  Who can guess this lost Harlem corner captured in a photo taken circa 1929?  The old fish market within the wood frame house was probably demolished 30 years later to make way for public housing but the distinct white brick building in the background still stands today as a reminder of uptown's industrial past.  An updated photo taken more recently will be posted later on in the week.
The McDermott-Bunger Dairy building still stands to at 527 West 125th Street on the north side, close to Old Broadway.  There used to be several small wood frame houses on the south side and the archival picture shows Tiemann Place when it extended all the way to 125th Street.  That intersection has since been discontinued to make way for the Grant Houses somewhere in the mid century.  More on the aforementioned dairy can be found in our past post: LINK

  1. That's the old dairy, so it must be Broadway and 125th.

  2. The White Bldg is the Muller Dairy processing plant, located between Amsterdam and Old Broadway
