BEST RESTORATION 2017: THE ALHAMBRA

Harlem Bespoke: The developers behind the historic Alhambra Ballroom are doing something quite right and easily gets the vote for the best building restoration project of the year.  This iconic address at the corner of 126th Street and 7th Avenue had much of the ornamental details removed on the top floors over the decades but the intricate cornices have now been duplicated in the past few months.  A plaque on the upper level which was previously skim-coated over has since had the property's namesake appropriately inscribed back on to that particular design element.  Now the storefronts at street level will eventually be renovated and we expect a classic look when all finishes up.

There is over 78,000 square-foot of space within and the express trains are just a block over which makes the location quite ideal for the right retailer.  There has been a rumor that a food hall will open by 125th Street in the near future and this could be a fantastic location for such an endeavor.  Other than that, Trader Joe's comes to mind since the supermarket chain always copies Whole Foods when deciding on new locations.  Check out what the Alhambra originally looked like in our past post: LINK
