REMEMBER: A POEM FROM LANGSTON ON 135TH

Harlem Bespoke: Those walking on 135th Street on the both sides between Frederick Douglass and Adam Clayton Powell  should take note of the walk of fame plaques embedded in the sidewalk.  We especially adore the Langston Hughes diamond since the poem The Night is Beautiful So the Faces of My People has been inscribed within.

James Baldwin, Ella Fitzgerald, Arturo Schomburg, Marcus Garvey, Adam Clayton Powell, Tito Puentes, Paul Robeson and more are honored at this little known local landmark.  The sidewalk is pretty much empty towards the 8th Avenue side but one will find the historic markers starting at mid block and also more towards the St. Nicholas end of the street.  There is a bit of a break going west so make sure to keep looking while traversing this remarkable path that highlights some of the greatest luminaries of Harlem history.
