REMEMBER: CLUB BARON ON LENOX AVENUE

Harlem Bespoke:  The above artwork shows Club Baron which used to be located in Central Harlem back in the 1970s.  There must have been quite a few of these retro spots in Harlem after the Renaissance years but for some reason very few photos have been documented.  There is also Baron Lounge which adjoined the club at the corner of 132nd and Lenox but the mystery here is the one-story venue which does not exist today.
As can be seen from the more recent photo taken this week, Revolution Books is actually at the aforementioned space but an entire new residential building had been constructed up top. Baron probably alludes to Barron Wilkins who was started up the first speakeasy in Harlem and was one of the most famous club owner at the height of the Harlem Renaissance.  Read more about Barron Wilkins' Club in our past post: LINK
