Shape wise, it makes sense but the proportion between the side crenellations and the pitched facade seem a little off for it to be the same building in the above photo. Note the point of the roof up front is a good two stories higher than the side battlement. The Baptist Church had a less steeper point that matches up to the side structures.Ulysseshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00817576268296958520noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2048034911181517049.post-80207103846175051952009-10-28T23:45:12.291-04:002009-10-28T23:45:12.291-04:00If I may, I think that the building on the far rig...If I may, I think that the building on the far right with the angled roof is the church that still exists on 116th between 5th and Lenox, on the south side of the street, on the left (east) side of the Kalihari. That would mean that the photographer was standing on 115th facing due east.
I made a map: (http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&ll=40.802343,-73.945262&spn=0.009453,0.015965&z=16&msid=116015357220921215188.0004770aab376ce20ff6d)Ralph Whitehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06991703628177351350noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2048034911181517049.post-63562984576065283182009-10-28T09:03:56.250-04:002009-10-28T09:03:56.250-04:00Thanks for the current photos, very interesting. Similarly Harlem like the rest of NYC remains under constant change that is so well documented by this site.westsiderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01054880627414562052noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2048034911181517049.post-19952346653187647032009-10-27T10:14:28.222-04:002009-10-27T10:14:28.222-04:00Just added the shot of the northwest corner with t...Just added the shot of the northwest corner with the old Bernheimer Building.Ulysseshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00817576268296958520noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2048034911181517049.post-53143716325069197592009-10-26T20:39:58.970-04:002009-10-26T20:39:58.970-04:00Neat find! If the photographer was standing on Lenox that would make the field the where the Bernheimer Building, which Conway is in, stands today. If the front of the dark building at center were facing Lenox the field would be where the Renaissance stands.

The standing water makes sense for 116th and Lenox. The early subway was prone to flooding there because of groundwater. The water can still be seen being pumped southward between the downtown tracks.Joehttp://jschumacher.typepad.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2048034911181517049.post-50422997310137379032009-10-26T18:37:47.050-04:002009-10-26T18:37:47.050-04:00Added the photos but there's not much left tha...Added the photos but there's not much left that can be matched up with the original.Ulysseshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00817576268296958520noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2048034911181517049.post-40032821386219329092009-10-26T12:39:57.921-04:002009-10-26T12:39:57.921-04:00Amazing photo, is it possible to request a current...Amazing photo, is it possible to request a current photo of the same view?westsiderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01054880627414562052noreply@blogger.com
