The original Apollo marquee, up into the 1930's, looked more like the Hard Rock Cafe sign in Midtown. Ornate and vertical, it added a lot of drama to a handsome but somber facade. Lower photo is a broader view of 125th Street with the Apollo at center left. Photos courtesy NYPL
