Harlem Bespoke:  We just took the above photo on Sugar Hill and really soaked in the history of the neighborhood.   This distinct corner at 148th and St. Nicholas Avenue is really unique because of the barrel front townhouses that line the avenue and also for the jazz clubs that used to be in a few of the commercial spaces.  A fire burned down one of the brownstones over a couple of years ago but much still remains intact in this landmark district.

Harlem Bespoke: We looked up a few more original 1940s New York City tax photos of Sugar Hill and got a better closeup of Jimmy's Chicken Shack by 148th Street on St. Nicholas Avenue.  The iconic hanging fowl-centric neon sign is the one image that always comes to mind but the storefront of the jazz spot was also quite interesting because it was actually a circular shack.  Most in the neighborhood know that this is one of uptown's historic district and the shop address still remains today but currently has a restaurant within: LINK

REMEMBER: THE LOST CLUBS OF SUGAR HILL

Harlem Bespoke: Our original article from 2013 reveals how Sugar Hill in West Harlem had quite a few clubs back in the day.  These were located within townhouses commercial spaces in Hamilton Heights and were not huge venues like Small's Paradise or the Cotton Club in Central Harlem.  St. Nick's has since burned downed after this article was originally written and only two major signs are left in the neigborhood.
