GOATS RETURN TO RIVERSIDE PARK 2023
Harlem Bespoke: The goats are back at Riverside Park and West 120th Street on the upper level! Did you know the word Gotham basically means goat town? Harlem was known as a village full of goats before the brownstones arrived by the end of the 1800s and now everything has gone full circle.

REMEMBER: THE LADY OF THE TITANIC AT 106TH
Harlem Bespoke: An article originally posted back in 2015 in remembrance of the those who lost their lives on the Titanic.
Just outside of the southern borders of Morningside, there is a small triangular park we always make a point to visit during the springtime. This little intersection on Broadway and 106th Street or Duke Ellington Boulevard has a memorial statue that was made possible by the citizens of New York City 100 years ago in memory of Isidor and Ida Straus who were millionaire philanthropist that perished on the Titanic. On the night of the tragedy, Ida Straus was offered one of the few lifeboats seats available for women and children in first class but refused to take it.

SEE: SAKURA PARK IN BLOOM SPRING 2023
Harlem Bespoke: Cherry Blossoms in Central Park are at peak bloom now but uptown's own hidden Sakura Park by Riverside Drive and 122nd Street has traditionally been a bit slower in pace. We dropped by again on Tuesday this week and snapped the above photos which show the blossoms at a point 3 range from a scale of 1-5 in peak bloom.

☞ REMEMBER: The 1883 World's Fair Proposal
Harlem Bespoke: An old archival map published in Demorest's Illustrated Monthly magazine from 1879 shows that one of the original World's Fair sites had been planned from the areas of Morningside Height and well into Manhattanville. Morningside Park can be seen at the lower left hand corner and there would have been some sort of Beaux Arts palace built within the green space. Note that Columbia's future campus site would have been the main fair ground dominated by large Crystal Palaces and that the diagonal street at the right is basically 125th Street with the Hudson in the horizon.

BESPOKE: UPTOWN'S OLDEST CHOCOLATE SHOP
Harlem Bespoke: Uptown's oldest chocolate shop has been around since 1942 over by Columbia University at Broadway by 114th Street and was notably Hollywood legend Katherine Hepburn's favorite sweet spot in the city. The iconic movie star of yesteryear used to stop by frequently and pick up her favorites which included the pecan turtles, dark orange peel, butter crunch and dark almond bark. We stopped by this week and ordered the Hepburn mix and asked to have two pieces of everything in one of the beautiful gold print boxes. Otherwise everything is sold by the pound and can be selected a la carte.
